Marquez to continue recovery at home after being discharged from hospital

Marc Marquez was discharged from hospital on Sunday and will continue his recovery from a third operation on his right arm at home.

Repsol Honda rider Marquez fractured his humerus in the opening race of the 2020 MotoGP season in Jerez and had to withdraw from the next event after attempting to return.

His recovery was slow after a pair of operations, the second of which was required after he broke the titanium plate placed in his arm while trying to open a window.

He failed to return to the track and underwent a third procedure on December 3, with the testing of samples from the fracture revealingĀ the six-time champion had previously sustained an infection.

Marquez remained hospitalised in Madrid for a further 10 days until beingĀ permitted to return home and continue his antibiotic treatment.

A Repsol Honda statement read: "Marc Marquez's progress after the surgery performed on December 3 and the start of antibiotic therapy has been deemed satisfactory by his medical team.

"Today he has been discharged from the Hospital Ruber Internacional to continue his recovery at home, where he will continue with the specific antibiotic treatment."

Joan Mir won the MotoGP championship in Marquez's absence. The 2021 season is scheduled to begin on March 28 with the Qatar Grand Prix.
