Sourav Ganguly suffers 'mild heart attack'; stable now

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who is also the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has become stable after he underwent angioplasty in Kolkata after his chest pain.  Ganguly was rushed to Woodlands Hospital after he felt discomfort on his chest while exercising on a treadmill at his home gym.

Meanwhile, the hospital said that tests showed Ganguly had suffered a mild heart attack and the former left-handed cricketer had blockages in three coronary arteries as well.

"He came in good time. One of his arteries had critical blockage which we removed through angioplasty," Aftab Khan, a cardiologist, said to the reporters outside the hospital. "He has improved, the pain in his chest has reduced. He is stable now. He has to be kept under observation for 24 hours so he will have to stay in hospital."

Meanwhile, the hospital has formed a medical board and a decision has been taken on Sourav Ganguly's treatment. Notably, he took over the reins of the BCCI president in 2019.

Moreover, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has paid Ganguly a visit in the hospital.

"It's difficult to accept that such a young and fit sportsperson like him could have a condition like this," Banerjee said.

However, everyone from the cricketing community and fans wished him on social media as well.

"Just got to know about your ailment Sourav," batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who was Ganguly’s teammate once, wrote on Twitter. "Hope each passing day brings you closer to a full and speedy recovery! Get well soon."

It is also noteworthy that, the former left-handed batsman, who announced his retirement from the international cricket in 2008, had played 113 Tests and 311 One Day Internationals and led India to 21 test wins as well.
