The bat from Tamim Bhai lifts my confidence – Emon on his gift from Tamim Iqbal

4th January is a special day for Parvez Hossain Emon as he boarded for  South Africa flight on that day last year. After a year, he earned his maiden call-up on the same day.  During this 365 days, Emon has lived with his dream which only he can dream of.  From youth team to senior side, quite a dream year he is having right now !.

After having won the U-19 World Cup, he got the chance to play for Mohamedan in the Dhaka Premier League before the COVID-19 hit the entire world. Owing to the global pandemic, he had to spend at home without any action.

However, he returned in action in a practice match for HP team where he smashed 40 off 13, although he couldn’t play his best in the BCB President’s Cup.

He managed to score only 29 runs in 2 games but he tasted a fair share of success in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup. In 9 games, he scored 233 runs for Fortune Barishal which also included 2 fifties and a 42-ball 100 which helped him to be in the radar of the selectors. Moreover, with this, he became the fastest Centurion for Bangladesh in the shortest format as well.

However, the credit goes to the HP Head Coach Toby Redford, who had done a decent job by rectifying his batting flaws. Toby is one of the architects who helped Emon to be a better version of him.

While speaking about this, Emon told Cricfrenzy, “What I wanted, he (Toby Redford) did the same so I didn’t have to change much. I understood well what he wanted me to do and I tried my best to do that. While hitting a shot, my head usually fell off which used to create problems and he worked a lot on it.

Apart from this, I had issues while playing at the leg-side and he worked on that part too.”

However, Emon got a bat as a prize from Tamim Iqbal after his swashbuckling 42-ball hundred. He got the confidence after getting the surprise from him.

He said, “It was a surprise from Tamim Bhai. After hitting the hundred and coming back to the dressing room, he gave me the bat. He said, ‘Take it, it’s yours.’ I didn’t expect it at all as this is certainly a huge thing for me to get a bat from a veteran like him.”

“Whenever he used to practice, I used to see and think if I had something like this! And, finally, I have gathered much-needed confidence too. He is my idol and getting a gift like this from him is huge for me. What I wanted, I got that.”

Meanwhile, he went to play in Mymensingh after the President’s Cup and returned a few days ago. He was preparing for the upcoming Ireland series and getting the national call-up was unexpected for him as well. Emon said, “I was preparing with the HP team for the Ireland series and getting I didn’t expect this at all.”

“It was totally unexpected. Last year we boarded the South Africa flight on this day. And, it is a huge thing for me that I have earned the call-up on this day only. It certainly feels great,” he added.

However, he might not get the chance to be in the main squad despite getting a call in the primary squad. But the youngster is considering this (to share the dressing room with the seniors) as a huge thing. He wants to learn more from Shakib-Mushfiq.

Emon revealed, “Obviously, it feels great. I have shared the dressing room with the seniors in the President’s Cup or in the T20 Cup. I have learnt a lot from them. I don’t know how far I can go but I will try my level best to give my 100% wherever I play.”
