KL Rahul Rules Out of Rest of Series Owing to Wrist Sprain

As Team India and Australia are gearing up for the third Test, India Team got a big blow as the swashbuckling batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out of the remainder of the four-match Border-Gavaskar series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed on Tuesday. Rahul, who has featured in the squad for the Test series against Australia, didn't get the chance to play in either of the first two Tests, has suffered a sprain in his wrist while doing a net session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday.

Meanwhile, he will need three weeks time to recover from the injury now. On the other hand, team India hasn't announced any replacement for the batsman yet.

"KL Rahul sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG during Team India’s practice session on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength," the BCCI said in a release.

"He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury," it further read.

Notably, KL Rahul was likely to be featured in the second Test at Melbourne since the captain Virat Kohli had returned to India to be with his wife Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child in this month.
