Ravindra Jadeja rules out of the 4th Test after sustaining thumb fracture

With a dismantle show in the batting, Team India have received a massive blow on Saturday as their key all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has injured his left thumb and it got dislocated and he has been ruled out of this game as well as the final Test in Brisbane, which is all set to begin from January 15.

However, there is some positive news too as wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant's elbow injury, which he received during the same day of Jadeja, is not that serious and he is likely to be available in the second innings of the Test match. Notably, both players had to undergo scans after being hit by short balls from the Australian pace bowling unit on the third day of the third Test match.

"Ravindra Jadeja has suffered a dislocation and fracture on his left thumb. It will be very difficult for him to wear those gloves and bat," a senior BCCI source told PTI on Saturday. "In any case, he will be out of action for at least two to three weeks which rules him out of the final Test. Pant will be able to bat as his injury isn't that serious."

However, the veteran campaigner and reserve wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has replaced Pant according to the recent amendment in the ICC playing conditions.

"Rishabh Pant was hit on the left elbow while batting in the second session on Saturday. He has been taken for scans," the BCCI had earlier shared in a release.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, who was playing well with his 36 off 67 balls on the third day of the match, was hit while trying to play pull shot of a short ball from Pat Cummins. He was seen in pain soon after and after the on-field treatment, including strapping a bandage, he returned to bat but lost the plot and eventually got out by Josh Hazlewood.

However, Team India had lost a few players already - Ishant Sharma (before series started), Mohammed Shami (forearm), Umesh Yadav (calf muscle) and KL Rahul (wrist) due to various injuries. Even their regular captain Virat Kohli too is on a paternity leave. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this situation.
