Bangladesh squad announced for the West Indies series; Mashrafe dropped

Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 24-member squad for the ODI series and 20-member squad for the Test series for the series against West Indies. This is the first time two new players have earned their maiden call-up – Shariful Islam and Parvez Hossain Imon. But the surprising thing was Mashrafee Bin Mortaza couldn’t find a place in the squad.

Shariful has done well with the ball in the BCB President’s Cup and Bangabandhu T20 Cup whereas Imon had a stunning show with the bat and their talents helped them to be in the radar of the selectors. Along with them, spin-bowling all-rounder Seikh Mehedy Hasan has earned a place in the team as well.

Meanwhile, due to the ban, their key all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan wasn’t with the team in their last series against Zimbabwe. However, he has completed the ban period and has been named in the squad for the upcoming series as well.

However, with this series, Tamim Iqbal is going to take over the captaincy officially. On the other hand, Mominul Haque, the captain in white has been included despite his finger injury isn’t cured yet. But, the BCB is hopeful that he will be better before the series.

While Mortaza has left the captaincy in the Zimbabwe series, the board didn’t feel like keeping him in the young squad. However, the squad is likely to be short before the series starts.
