World Test Championship final postponed

ICC World Test Championship (WTC) was announced to be held from 10 to 14 June at the Iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, however it has been shifted to 18 to 22 June while June 23 will be kept as a reserve day. It was done while keeping in mind the closeness between the WTC final and the final of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and any quarantine period that player might have to go through with an eye on the coronavirus pandemic.

After the pandemic as teams could not play all the Test series, ICC brought a new system for ranking the team in the World Test Championship points table. The WTC table has now been revised to rank teams based on the percentage of points earned from the series played, meaning teams are ranked in order of percentage of points earned.

India will play another series against England and Australia, which is in third place, will play against South Africa. Australia would have to win against South Africa if Tim Paine and his boys managed to make it to the WTC finals. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday confirmed that England will start their home international summer with a two-match Test series against New Zealand, commencing from June 2.

Currently, India and New Zealand are placed at the top two spots in the WTC standings. Virat Kohli's side has 430 points after playing five series, while New Zealand has 420 points after playing five series.
