AUS vs IND 3rd Test Day 5 Review: India fight all odds to draw test in Sydney

The third Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground ended in a draw after the Team India fought all the odds, including the injuries as well as racial abuse. The visitors resumed the final day on 98-2, 309 runs away from reaching the target set by the mighty Aussies. However, captain Ajinkya Rahane couldn't stay long and Nathan Lyon dismissed him for just 4.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant came in the middle ahead of Hanuma Vihari at Number 5 and the wicket-keeper batsman changed the pace of the game by started taking on the hosts. On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara held the fort with his calm demeanour. With this, he also reached the 6000-run mark in the longest format of the game.

Pant didn't leave anyone and looked quite comfortable in the middle. he stitched a 148-run partnership and dismantled Aussies' bowling in the process. But, the talented batsman missed out on a well-deserved hundred by mere 3 runs as he fell off Lyon.

His dismissal brought Vihari in the middle whereas Pujara took the pressure off him by increasing the scoring rate. Vihari, meanwhile, took more than 18 balls to get off the mark. Soon Hazlewood struck with the new ball to get rid of Pujara, who was deceived by the movement and bounce and had to go for 77 off 205 balls.

Later, the veteran campaigner Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari took India to the session break without losing a further wicket. Later, Vihari suffered a hamstring injury which left them in a critical situation too as the strike rotation became difficult. Ashwin, on the other hand, faced a lot of short deliveries after his arrival and was on the verge of getting injured to his shoulder and chest.

Notably, Ravindra Jadeja, who was ruled out with a dislocated thumb, was also seen padded up as well to come and bat after taking pain killers and injections. The team fought the obstacles in the game but stood strong. Both Ashwin and Vihari stuck together at the SCG in the entire final session and made sure they play 131 overs in the fourth innings. They added 62 off 259 balls and showed immense courage to draw the game.

The final Test of the four-match Test series will begin from January 15 at The Gabba, Brisbane.
