Tamim blames failure of batting unit

Fortune Barishal skipper Tamim Iqbal said on Monday that they paid the price of playing poor batting against Beximco Dhaka in the eliminator at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Dhaka kept their nerve to book their place for the second qualifier of Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020 as they defeated Barishal by nine runs in the Eliminator clash.

Dhaka had shown their character as they successfully defended 150 to seal the match and now Mushfiqur Rahim’s side will face the losing team from the Qualifier 2 match between Gazi Group Chattogram and Gemcon Khulna.

‘’To be honest we did not play as well as we had hoped during the entire tournament. Today and yesterday we played well. I think we bowled great especially today as we have tied them below 150,’’ Tamim was quoted after the match.

‘’We didn’t get off to a good start. I started at a slow pace in the beginning because we quickly lost two wickets I didn’t want to give up one more wicket,’’ he said.

‘’I think if I could hit 1 or 2 more boundaries, I wouldn't have to put so much pressure in the end,’’ he said adding that he is happy that young cricketers are contributing well but added that the young guns need to consistent.

‘’It is certainly good that young people are getting centuries. But to get to the next step they must run regularly. The century he (Emon) scored was great. There is no doubt about his talent. He is a good quality player,’’ he said.

‘’But if I say something harsh, I have to say that all the players who are getting runs have to be consistent,’’ he added.
